About us

The mission of Fernbank LINKS is to inspire a passion for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in our community, with a focus on introducing children and young adults to the possibilities and rewards of the STEM fields. We strive to ensure that our members develop, through education and hands-on experience, the leadership skills and technical knowledge necessary to succeed in a global community.

Linking Ideas and Networking Kids with Science

Fernbank LINKS started in 2002, at Fernbank Science Center, as a rocketry team, and is now a middle and high school robotics team in Atlanta, GA. We compete as FRC #4468 and BEST #701.

Building Robots

LINKS competes in the FIRST Robotics Competition, the highest level high school robotics competition in the world, and BEST Robotics, a middle and high school level regional competition in the United States.

Developing Minds

Our STEM pipeline takes in students from an early age and provides a pathway in STEM education that takes them all the way to a career.

Changing Lives

Fernbank LINKS truly does change lives. Alumni consistently return to volunteer at our many events.

Johnson STEM Activity Center is a non-profit organization lead by Dr. Lonnie Johnson, the inventor of the Super Soaker. He has made a portion of his battery research facility, Johnson Research & Development, into a STEM gym. The space houses several FRC, FTC, and FLL teams. The facility also houses the DE Atlanta fields and many Georgia FIRST events throughout the year.
